One of 12,000 workers building the Hinkley Point C new nuclear power station tells the story of 2024. Lilli Thompson, 25, from Taunton joined the project in 2018 as an apprentice and now runs her own team on the site.  She’s one of the many young people building their careers in Somerset and helping boost the area’s economy.

Hinkley Point C ended the year by installing the first nuclear reactor in Britain for more than 30 years and work also began installing the world’s largest turbine.

Watch the end-of-year film to see these milestones and more and learn about the progress made at Europe’s largest construction site in 2024.

Each milestone brings Britain closer to its net zero goals and strengthens our energy security. The power station will supply more than 6m homes with around-the clock low-carbon electricity.
