The Next Generation Nuclear Industry Council (NGNIC) is excited to announce that it is looking for early to mid-career professionals to join its council from across government, industry, its supply chain and other interested parties.

What is the NGNIC?

The Next Generation Nuclear Industry Council (NGNIC) was established as a shadow board to the NIC in 2020 and comprises around 12 young professionals who represent public and private sector organisations as well as the NIA who act as the secretariat for the group.

The NGNIC’s vision is to inspire the next generation to champion Nuclear as a thriving and inclusive sector, which supports national prosperity and a green transition to solve global challenges.

What is the opportunity?

The NGNIC was set up to bring new ideas and direction to the long-term future of nuclear and to drive the strategic growth of our sector. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply to be part of the NGNIC and to help shape the future of the industry, play a leading role in strategic decision making and to develop both personally and professionally at such a pivotal time for the nuclear sector.

When the NIC has been reformed, the NGNIC will support it in tackling long-term challenges facing the industry and facilitating cooperation between industry and Government.

Examples of our activities so far include:

  • Engagement with key parliamentarians to promote our sector and push for positive change
  • Consultations with the workforce on the nuclear sector, culminating in our first-of-a-kind Future Workforce report
  • Action Fund supporting grass roots initiatives across the industry
  • Regular hotseats with industry leaders and innovators
  • Exclusive roundtables with senior leadership in Government and industry on topical subjects
  • Participation at industry events including taking part in panel sessions, presenting papers and talking about NGNIC activities

What sort of person are we looking for?

Successful candidates should be able to act autonomously as well as part of the NGNIC team and be creative and enthusiastic. Strong communication skills should be demonstrated and the individual should be prepared to challenge, question and reflect.

The membership of the NGNIC will be based on personal appointments meaning that its members are not appointed to represent a particular organisation, rather they are appointed in their capacity as a knowledgeable person with the right behaviours and ability to think strategically on behalf of the whole sector and its members. The role will require communication with senior industry leaders, Government and those outside nuclear.

What is the level of commitment?

The NGNIC meet monthly on a mostly virtual basis for approximately an hour with additional activities and deliverables to be determined as required. This will be a two year term with the option to extend for an additional year. There will also be an opportunity to be assigned a senior leader from within the sector as a mentor who can be met at a frequency to suit you.

How do I apply?

Interested parties should submit a written application of no more than 250 words as to why they believe they are suitable for the role and why they wish to be considered by Friday 16th August 2024 to [email protected]. For more information, please get in contact with via this email address.

A selection process will then be undertaken by a review panel. Scoring will be carried out against the following 5 areas: Communication Skills, Getting into Action, Challenging the Status Quo, Diversity of Thought, and Collaboration & Big Picture Thinking.

Following down-selection, CVs will be requested and interviews will then take place for a shortlisted number of applicants prior to the final appointments being made. We are looking to appoint 3 new members with further recruitment opportunities to take place in future. It is anticipated that successful candidates will be appointed by the end of September 2024 with the opportunity to meet the team in person in October.
