Commenting on Amazon’s investment in nuclear company X-energy to support its Small Modular Reactor to power data centres (link), Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:
“This is a very significant moment for X-energy and for the future of nuclear power. More and more companies are backing nuclear because it’s a reliable source of clean power that is price predictable which can help meet the huge demand for zero carbon electricity. From powering data centres and the growth of AI to decarbonising heavy industry with clean heat, nuclear can do so much more than providing power to the grid and the UK should be taking the lead in attracting investment from companies like X-energy who want to develop here.”
